Guide to Crew Skills and Crafting in SWTOR

Celinda March 27th, 2020 SWTOR    Swtor Credits

In SWTOR, professions are known as Crew Skills. Crew Skills are essential to the game, because they allow you to craft powerful and useful items using your gathered resources, but the star wars galaxy is so large, it is hard to gather the right resources without interrupting your current adventure. At this time, your companions can come into play, they can head out to gather resources & craft items for you, and complete their missions.

Crafting in Star Wars is a great resource for both self-sufficiency or for making a profit, so it is one of the recommended ways to farm swtor credits. Here Gmemo would like to share this guide about swtor crew skills and crafting, and some of the content is quoted from this article.

There are three categories of Crew Skills: Gathering Skills, Crafting Skills and Mission skills. There are three Crew Skill slots. You can have more than one Gathering or Mission Crew Skills,  but you can only have one Crafting Crew Skill.

Gathering and Crafting skills are more closely related, so gathering tasks often being used in crafting tasks. You can choose to use your skill slots in any combination, but only one Crafting Skill may be selected to master. Crew skills can also affect gameplay by helping a character find alternative routes through a scenario.

How to pick up your Crew Skills?

You are able to pick up Crew Skills from the Strongholds and Crew Skills Section on your Fleet,  when you first land on the Fleet. Below are the Republic and Empire’s locations on the maps.

Which Crew Skills are combined together?

If you are a Subscriber, you have up to three crew skills in total. You have access to two Crew Skills, if you are Preferred Status Player.

Crafting Skills should be combined with certain Mission or Gathering Skills. You should know which skills combine together nicely and make a decision which to pick up. Keep in mind that you can have three Gathering Skills, but I recommend you get a Crafting Skill on your first character.

How to Level up your Crew Skills?

When you collect materials or send your companions to complete tasks, your gathering skill will rise. The Mission Skills can only be leveled up by sending your companions to complete missions. Please know that your companions will return with empty hands sometimes, it means that they are nothing but a waste of time and money.

The Quickest way to do is “feeding” them Companion Gifts.

You can develop a full set of Crafting Amplifiers to improve your proficiency in missions and crafting, but please note that Amplifiers are quite an expensive feature in SWTOR 6.0, so I do not recommend you bother with the crafting-related ones until you are ready to start some serious GTN business with your army of alts.

You need to craft items to level up your Crafting Profession. The higher level and tier of the item, the longer it will take for your companions to craft them, but the quicker you will reach the next Grade.

My advice is to often craft the items with an “orange” icon, and send your companions to missions marked with “abundant yield”.

Companions and Crew Skills

In the SWTOR system, companions will have the ability to gather resources while a player is in combat, as well as they will have the ability to craft items at a player's ship while the player is engaged in other quests or even offline, and they can take the materials needed straight from the cargo hold when doing so.
